Secular Carmelites

The Spirit of Carmel is for Everyone

Secular Discalced Carmelites are practicing members of the Catholic Church who, under the protection of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and inspired by St. Teresa of Jesus and St. John of the Cross, make the commitment to the Discalced Carmelite Order to seek the face of God for the sake of the church and the world.

The Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCDS) was approved by Pope Nicolas V in 1452, and its members embrace a vocation to pursue Christian perfection, in the world, according to the spirit and ideals of the Discalced Carmelite Order.  The emphasis is on vocation, living in the world and following the spirit of Carmel, namely, striving for close union with Christ through interior prayer.

There are two communities that meet on the 4th Saturday of the month. See the parish calendar for more information.
